Terms of Use
The rules that govern your use of the ColVelo marketplace — including how listings work, how payments are processed, and what happens if something goes wrong.
Last updated: October 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account, browsing, or making a purchase on www.ColVelo.com (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when the updated version is posted on the Site. Continued use after changes means you accept them. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
2. About ColVelo
ColVelo operates a specialized online marketplace for bicycles, e-bikes, components, and cycling accessories. We connect buyers with independent sellers — including private sellers, bike shops, and brands — across the United States.
ColVelo is not a party to any transaction between users. We do not own, stock, inspect, or ship the items listed. Ownership of an item transfers directly from the seller to the buyer.
3. Who can use the site
To buy or sell on ColVelo you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (users under 18 may only use the site through an adult's account, under supervision).
- Register with a valid email address and password.
- Provide truthful information about yourself and any business you represent.
- Comply with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction.
You may only create one personal account and (if applicable) one business account. Do not share login credentials, and keep your password secure.
4. Listings
4.1 What you can sell
- Bicycles of all categories (road, gravel, mountain, e-bike, triathlon, etc.).
- Bicycle components — frames, wheels, drivetrains, pedals, etc.
The following may not be listed: cycling apparel, general sporting goods, and any items that are counterfeit, stolen, or illegal in the United States.
4.2 Listing requirements
- Accurate title including brand, model, year, and condition.
- Up to 10 photographs you took yourself — no stock images or images taken from other sites.
- Honest description of the item's condition and any defects.
- A fixed asking price. Do not include contact details or external links in the listing body.
4.3 Condition categories
- New: unused, in original packaging or showing no signs of use.
- Like new: excellent condition, minimal or no signs of use.
- Used: previously ridden, normal wear described accurately.
- Refurbished: professionally restored (business sellers only).
4.4 Listing duration
Listings remain active for 4 months, after which we may automatically deactivate them unless you confirm renewal.
4.5 Removal rights
We may remove any listing that violates these Terms, at our sole discretion, and deactivate accounts that repeatedly violate them. Where practical, we'll notify you by email before removal.
5. Buying & offers
To buy an item, browse the Site, select the item, and either:
- Purchase directly using Buy Safely (our secure checkout), or
- Message the seller to arrange a direct transaction (which is at your own risk — see Section 11).
5.1 Making an offer
You may submit a purchase offer at a lower price than the seller's asking price. Offers remain open until the seller accepts, rejects, or counteroffers. An offer only becomes binding once the seller accepts it.
5.2 Seller acceptance window
After a Buy Safely purchase, the seller has 48 hours to accept or reject the purchase proposal. If the seller does not respond, the proposal is automatically rejected and the buyer is refunded in full.
6. Payments
Payments made through Buy Safely are processed by Stripe, Inc. ColVelo does not handle or store your full card details.
Funds are not released to the seller immediately. ColVelo holds the payment until 48 hours after the buyer receives the item, at which point the funds are released to the seller, provided no claim has been raised.
7. Shipping
Shipping is either managed by the seller directly (for larger business sellers who have opted out of our shipping service) or by ColVelo using trusted couriers.
- Bicycles and frames: ColVelo provides custom packaging and a prepaid shipping label. The seller is responsible for correctly packing the item and handing it to the courier within 7 days.
- Components: the seller packs and ships within 7 days, using the label we provide.
If the item is lost in transit, ColVelo cancels the transaction and refunds the buyer in full.
8. Returns & claims
8.1 Reporting an issue
Within 48 hours of delivery, the buyer may report an issue through the “Purchases & Sales” section by clicking “Report a problem.” Valid reasons include:
- The item received differs significantly from the listing description.
- The item is damaged, defective, or broken and this was not disclosed.
- The item was never delivered.
Minor wear (scratches, worn tyres, worn brake pads) is not a valid claim if consistent with the listed condition.
8.2 Evidence required
Provide photographic or video evidence of the issue within 4 days of submitting the claim. Do not attempt any repair or restoration before ColVelo confirms the claim — doing so closes the claim.
8.3 Outcome
If the claim is confirmed, ColVelo cancels the transaction and provides the buyer with a prepaid return label. The buyer is refunded in full using the original payment method.
8.4 Right of withdrawal (EU/UK consumer buyers from business sellers)
Consumer buyers purchasing from a business seller in the EU/UK may have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU. This does not apply to private-seller transactions or to items exempt by law.
9. Fees & commissions
Fees are always displayed before the buyer confirms payment.
- Consumer selling users: a commission of 2.5% of the sale price applies, with a minimum of $1 and a maximum of $199 per sale.
- Business selling users using ColVelo shipping: a commission of 4.5% of the sale price applies (min $1, max $500 per sale).
- Business selling users managing their own shipping: a commission agreed case-by-case between ColVelo and the seller.
- Buyers using Buy Safely: a service fee is added at checkout. The exact amount depends on the item category and seller type and is displayed on the order summary page.
All fees are inclusive of any applicable VAT or sales tax.
10. User chat rules
The ColVelo chat is for communicating about items — before and after a purchase. You may not use it to send:
- Advertising or promotional messages.
- Spam, malware, or bulk-mail messages.
- Content that is offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, or unlawful.
- Links to competitors or external marketplaces.
Violations may result in account deactivation without notice.

ColVelo acts as an intermediary. We are not liable for:
- The safety, quality, or legality of items listed by users.
- The accuracy of user-provided descriptions or photographs.
- Disputes between buyers and sellers, except where they arise from our failure to provide the Buy Safely service.
- Independent shipping arranged by business sellers.
- Transactions completed outside Buy Safely.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ColVelo's total liability for any claim related to the Site is limited to the price of the item in question. We are not liable for indirect, special, or consequential damages.
12. Your obligations
By using the Site, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information at registration and keep it up to date.

- Keep your login credentials confidential.
We may deactivate accounts that violate these rules and pursue damages where applicable.
13. Intellectual property
All intellectual property in the Site itself — design, code, layout, trademarks, and domain names — belongs to ColVelo.
When you upload content (photos, descriptions, messages), you grant ColVelo a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, and display that content for the operation and promotion of the Site. You retain ownership of your content and confirm you have the rights to share it.
14. Tax obligations & DAC7
Users are solely responsible for their own tax reporting obligations. ColVelo does not provide tax advice.
Where required by law (including under EU Directive 2011/16/EU as amended by 2021/514/EU — “DAC7”), ColVelo may collect and report certain seller information to tax authorities, including name, address, tax identification number, and details of transactions. Failure to provide requested information may result in account restrictions.
15. Applicable law & dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
